A series of letters written by Karzhavin between 1773 and 1788, primarily in Russian, to his parents, the President of the Continental Congress, and Mr. Barr. Karzhavin's topics include his travels in America, France, Holland, Martinique, and other West Indies islands, his education, his the various occupations, his adventures with the British, French, and Americans, both on land and at sea, his efforts as a merchant during the American Revolution, his activities in Virginia, and his views on science and on Russo-American relations. Supporting materials to the collection include articles in Russian and English discussing Karzhavin's American activities, and his friendship with Carlo Bellini, a professor at the College of William and Mary.
